Last updated 24 September 2026. When the site changes what it collects (accounts are coming), this page changes first.
What we do not collect
There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. The site loads no scripts, fonts, or images from other companies. The site itself gives visitors no cookies; Cloudflare, which protects it, may set a short-lived security cookie to tell people from automated bots.
What stays in your browser
The learning modules remember the age group you chose and which quiz questions you have answered. The dictionary keeps any suggestions you write until you export them. All of this is saved only in your own browser. It is never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
The translator also runs entirely in your browser: the words you type into it are not sent anywhere.
What reaches our servers
Like every website, ours receives the ordinary details of each request: your IP address, your browser type, and the page you asked for, which for the dictionary includes the word you searched. The dictionary also suggests entries as you type, so the letters typed into its search box are sent as you type them, not only when you press Search. They are used only to deliver the site and keep it running and secure, and are not combined with anything else.
Two companies handle those requests for us: Cloudflare, which protects the site and carries its traffic, and Railway, which runs it. Each keeps short-lived technical logs under its own privacy policy.
If you write to us
Email to an iumienwaac.org address reaches the project team. We use it only to reply and to act on what you asked, such as a correction to an entry, and we do not share it.
Photographs and recordings
Nothing showing a person, a ceremony, or a family heirloom is published without permission. If you appear in something on this site and want it taken down, write to us and it will be removed.
Reviewers
People who review entries sign in to a separate area of the site. Signing in sets the cookies that keep a reviewer signed in and protect their forms. Visitors who do not sign in never receive them.
Questions
Write to [email protected]. To report a security problem, use the same address; it is also published in security.txt.
